Training and Developing Apprentices

The Metro Rod Apprenticeship Scheme

We offer a number of structured learning and developing opportunities for apprentices. At Metro Rod, the apprenticeship in drainage inspection, maintenance and repair has been designed specifically for us.  An industry first, it focuses solely on drainage and plumbing and has been endorsed by CABWI, the nationally recognised awarding body for the water and wider utilities industries. The programme consists of 35 internal courses and 12 external courses, making it the most comprehensive within the drainage industry.

The apprenticeship has been designed to provide a structured learning programme which not only gives job satisfaction but also develops apprentices for greater responsibility and personal growth. Apprentices benefit from working directly within a local franchise depot, being mentored by expert drainage technicians and franchisees.

Apprentices are on their own individual learning pathway which means they are working and being trained on the job, enabling them to “earn as they learn”. In time, apprentices will have the opportunity to develop into a senior drainage engineer, a manager or even a business owner.
